Empires & Puzzles’ Dragonspire expansion offers a massive standalone experience that rivals the scope of the app’s base game. The expansion adds a new type of hero that players use to build teams, introducing a substantial new progression that all players start from scratch.
To create continuity between the base game and expansion, the app incorporates a clever new mechanic that allows players to equip base game heroes in the expansion to gain buffs and vice versa. Despite this interesting integration with the base game and the huge amount of new content, the expansion has not reversed Empires & Puzzles’ downward revenue trend, which we analyze in the report.
