Harry Potter: Puzzles and Spells’ Magical Creatures Season battle pass helped increase revenue 20% MoM by monetizing pets, one of the app’s main gameplay mechanics.

Previously, players were only able to earn pets by collecting cards from base play or IAPs. But with the release of Magical Creatures Season, players can now buy a premium pass that awards an exclusive pet each season.

Putting such a big part of gameplay behind a battle pass paywall comes with some risks, but a few factors help Harry Potter: Puzzles and Spells avoid frustrating non-paying players or overpowering paying players:

• The premium pass can be bought with cash or currency.
• Only one pet can be equipped at a time.
• Previously released pets can still be earned from the main progression.

The result is one of the most successful battle pass releases we’ve seen in the casual market.
